Antrim Artists' Studio Tour 2010

ANTRIM ARTISTS' STUDIO TOUR A GREAT SUCCESS

Parkside Arts Council, serving Antrim County artists, patrons of art, and art education in the community, held its first county-wide open studio tour, showcasing 10 artists, on July 18.  Those visitors who participated in the tour had a chance to visit 8 different studios, to chat with the artists regarding their methods and techniques, to view their works, and in some cases try a little hands-on experience in making art.
Artists Karen Baker Thumm, Peter Balestrieri, and Margie Guyot exhibited a variety of paintings in different media and subject matter and talked about how they applied paint to canvas or paper.  Stained glass artist, Mary Ellen Murphy, demonstrated how to cut glass and shape a design.  Tom Brown, photographer, spoke about his particular method of photographing and developing prints.  John Unger, sculptor, showed both old and new works, and potters Ron and Cynthia Tschudy not only showed their pottery but also allowed their guests to get a feel of the clay and form a pot.  Writer Beth Nelson spoke about her current writing projects.
The tour was both an artistic and financial success, with proceeds going to support future art exhibitions and events, and to help art educators in Antrim County.  Parkside Arts Council has decided to make this tour an annual summer event.
