diversified family farm producing eggs, meat, dairy, wool, firewood, compost, skin care and maple syrup. The mission of The
May Farm is to raise trustworthy food as close to your table as possible. Come learn about their visit to ermaculture guru
Joel Salatin’s Polyface farm, share your own ideas, and jam with some live music!
March 10: art / film / philosophy / 2010 - Elly Johnson presents the Honduras Photography & Water Project
Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America. An alarming 90% of Hondurans’ water supply is intermittent
and unreliable and only 44% is effectively disinfected, especially in rural areas. Bellaire native Elly Johnson presents a
compelling collection of Honduras photos and shares her plan to fund water improvements in Honduras.
March 17: art / film / philosophy / 2010 - ISLAND director Amanda Kik presents The Power of Residency
Programs, featuring writers Holly Wren Spaulding and Stephanie Mills There are
places — hundreds of them, in fact — where artists of all disciplines can go to work on their art. Artists’ communities are not
about retreat; they are about advancement. Learn about Bellaire’s new addition: the Hill Houses Residency Program, and
hear readings and stories from two local authors who have benefitted from residencies.
March 24: art / film / philosophy / 2010 - Rachel Krino sharing Arts and Economic Development: How
creativity grows communities Rachel Krino, 31, of Bellaire, Michigan is a graphic designer and marketing
consultant through her own company, Bailey Designs and Consulting. Rachel is a trained videographer and photographer,
who carries a Master of Arts degree in Media Management from Ohio University. Her thesis entitled, “Digitizing Grassroots:
How to start a non-profit media arts center in rural America,” is aimed at bringing arts education to underserved populations.
March 31: art / film / philosophy / 2010 - Film: All the Way from Michigan, Not Mars Unlike any live music documentary
you’ve ever seen, this film is an exploration of one artist’s creative process, as songwriter and musician (and native
Michigander) Rosie Thomas performs with the likes of Sufjan Stevens and Denison Witmer. Reflecting Thomas’s inwardlooking
persona, the performances here are intimate, spare and heartfelt.
