MAR 14: THE BUSINESS OF ART

Rachel Krino, along with other artists from the area, will present and lead a discussion on the business of art, including marketing and basic management of an art business. Information presented will be useful for artists but relevant for anyone who wants to do creative marketing. Topics will include how to apply for grants, and residency programs, take photos of your work, the importance of documentation, how to have a day job and still make time for making art, and more.

MAR 28: RIVERS AND TIDES

Wildly praised by the nation's top critics, the 2004 theatrical hit RIVERS AND TIDES is a mesmerizing, poetic and curiously contemplative portrait of revered Scottish sculptor Andy Goldsworthy, whose long-winding rock walls, icicle assemblages and other intricate, druidic masterpieces are made entirely of materials found in the wild. Gorgeously shot and edited by director Thomas Riedelsheimer, RIVERS AND TIDES is an intoxicating study of the fragile relationship between man, art and nature.

APR 11: CITY DESIGN FOR CHANCE ENCOUNTERS WITH CONSEQUENTIAL STRANGERS

Gary Howe, editor of the blog My Wheels are Turning (MyWHaT), shares his interest in community design and how it influences the ways we interact with one another. One of the bonuses of well-designed places are chance encounters with consequential strangers. Come discuss how design for spontaneous and serendipitous encounters with neighbors and strangers impacts us more than we think.

APR 25: THE GLEANERS AND I

This award-winning French documentary expands the definition of gleaners to include not only peasants who scavenge cultivated fields after a harvest, but also urban foragers, chefs de cuisine, and the filmmaker herself. More than just a critique of the decadence of advanced capitalism, THE GLEANERS AND I won numerous awards at its release, including Best Non-Fiction Film-2001 from the National Society of Film Critics.
